Faculty development Faculty development is a process by which faculty work systematically to improve their skills in the following areas: (1) educational skills, (2) leadership skills, (3) skills necessary to engage in scholarly activities, (4) personal development, and (5) skills in designing and implementing a professional development plan.

Faculty mentoring Programs in universities by which staff and faculty assist students by acting as counselors, providing assistance on approaches to university learning, and providing a feedback system from students to other staff.

Faculty/student interaction Interactions betweens students and faculty to promote the following: enhanced communication skills, enhanced teamwork and group skills, more active involvement in classroom learning, enhanced quality of student learning, and enhanced student creativity. These interactions can involve activities such as active listening, creative thinking, goal setting, question and answer sessions, and oral presentations.

Foreign institution Any non-U.S. institution of higher education.

Four year institution Any U.S. institution of higher education that awards a baccalaureate or higher degree.
